Music Ministry: Easter - 2018
The Music Ministry supports and enhances the prayer of the assembly at parish liturgical and paraliturgical celebrations. The basic commitment involves rehearsals and weekendliturgies. Instrumentalists are also invited to join.
Anyone interested in assisting as a member of the Music Ministry is asked to contact Bill Lucia at 372-6238, or firstname.lastname@example.org. Music ministers serve as cantors, instrumentalists, and members of the adult and Resurrection/funeral choirs. Rehearsals are usually held weekly [except during the summer months] from 7:00-8:30 on Wednesday evenings in the choir loft. I encourage those who would like to consider this very rewarding ministry during the summer months when programs and rehearsal schedules are less demanding to contact me. Individual training, group, and four-part singing are available.
I would like to extend special NOTES of appreciation and thanks to senior members of the Music Ministry who contribute to our liturgies: Barbara Begley, LuAnn Bousquet, Jim Craig, Lucy Gentile, Mary Kate Henle, Claire Howard, Lila Johnsen, Jennifer LaBarre, Joanne Lanzillo-Epaul, Nancy Bousques-Levesque, John Mihalchick, Nancy Miller, Sandra Pallotta, Margaret Patterson, Maria Rodriquez, Gail Sugalski, Tracey Tiffany, Deb Trimbolli, Suzanne Wayner, Kathy Walsh, Jim Wuller, Maureen Henle, Isabel Henle and especially Rick Koetsch whose assistance helps maintain "harmony."
Gratefully, Bill Lucia, Organist/Director of Pastoral Music
Our resource is a music series developed by Oregon Catholic Press. It provides both flexibility and ease of use. Traditional texts as well as favorite and new selections are included. The Music Issue/Hymnal is renewed annually as each Liturgical Year begins. Because music plays an integral role in the liturgy, enhancing and supporting the prayer of the congregation, the bishops of the United States have addressed its significance in Music in Catholic Worship. These guidelines indicate where music is to be used in all celebrations and address its appropriateness and artistic quality under what are called the liturgical, pastoral, and musical judgments. OCP's program is based on these criteria.
The music resource that we use for the responsorial psalms and Gospel acclamations is entitled Respond and Acclaim and is published by Oregon Catholic Press. The musical settings for these will now be available to the congregation in the Music Issue/Hymnal edition. Members of the Music Ministry use Choral Praise, containing chorale settings and descants for various texts, to enhance the prayer experience of the congregation.
Again I extend my sincere gratitude to those 'lofty' members of the Music Ministry who have worked with me at weekly rehearsal each Wednesday night and who give of themselves week after week, sometimes ministering at more than one weekend liturgy.
